Clicker 5
This software, with many features, is dedicated to speechless people and to users who can hardly write. Clicker 5 allows you to type or read a text or to communicate by using an entirely adjustable grid. It is the following version of Clicker4.

Fonctions : Cells content : one cell may contain a letter, a word, a picture a sound or all of that. The pictures can be scanned or loaded from a digital camera or from the picture resources of Clicker (however, the addition of a personal picture library is recommended). Some sounds can be recorded, and short movies can be included. In Clicker 5, there are new symbols provided with the software. Typing mode : click, self click, or scanning mode. Scanning mode : you need a link box between the computer and the switch. The scan can move cell-by-cell, row-by-row, or column-by-column. The speed is adjustable. The cell can be surrounded or highlighted. The time before the click can be set up (convenient for unsteady users). You can use an audio feed back. Speech system : an effort has been made: it is more realistic now. Grid navigating : there is an explorer to find easily the grid you want.
Edition : The creation of a grid is simple: you have to choose the number of columns, of cells, and an empty grid appears on the screen. Then you can click on any cell and add the letter, the word, the picture or the sound you want. Each time a cell is selected, Clicker can produce a sound, or print a text, a picture. It can also display another grid. It is easy to program a cell in order to make another grid appear when it is selected: this structure allows you to have lighter grids and better means of communication. The edition mode makes the creation of the grids even easier in this version. The “master grid” allows you to create at the same time several grids built on the same model. Learning grids are already loaded. You have the possibility to download grids from the web site. Advantages : It is possible to load some pictures, photos films, and MP3 files. Easy to program, a training is not necessary but could be very useful for people who have never used such a software. There is a function that prints the picture that fits the word you type (example: the picture of a mother or the photo of your mother appears when you type the word « mummy ») Very attractive : after you have saved a page, you can publish it as a web page, which allows you to send it by the E-Mail. Can be used as an educational program.
Disavantages : The speech system in French is an option The scanning mode does not work without one or two switches, and you need a box to connect the computer and the switches. Unfortunately, this box is quite expensive. It is difficult to move the mouse when using a switch : you have to keep the switch pressed. Even if they are understandable, the menus are in English. You cannot control the computer from clicker. Clicker can print sentences, but it does not do real text processing. You can only write in the incorporate text window
